Halloween Magic On The Oregon Coast

Once a year we mortals here on the Oregon Coast honor the traditions of Halloween to connect with otherworldly spirits and transition into the darkness of winter.

There is mystery to be found by young and old kids at heart while frolicking along the scenic Oregon Coast Beaches. Nestled between the mountains and the sea, Cannon Beach is a magical place to gather around a campfire and share stories of shipwrecks and haunts.

Whether you find yourself piecing together a homemade costume or winding through your local corn maze, the Halloween season is a time for fun!

A few ways to conjure up the halloween spirit

As we reroute our trick-or-treat plans this year the Sage Bleu Catering team has a few ways to conjure up the Halloween spirit at home.

Where ever you live on the Oregon Coast or some place even farther we have all the fun ideas to enjoy your Halloween celebration safely with a few of these tricks.

Fire up the cauldron and join us from a distance.

Halloween Appetizer Ideas

It is no secret that we love to cater to a colorful cheese and charcuterie board but this Halloween we are opting for a trio of sweet and savory cheeseballs. You can keep it classic or blend seasonal ingredients such as cranberry and cheddar, Rogue River Blue cheese, or goat cheese rolled in scallions.

Hint: Top each cheeseball with a green olive for a delightful platter of ‘eyeballs’ to add a touch of spookiness for the littles.

Putting Your Pumpkins to Work

Fall’s signature squash can be used in a range of recipes from comforting soups to spiced desserts.   For instance, add a bit of pumpkin and a dash of smoked paprika to deviled eggs with chive stems for the cutest mini pumpkin patch.

Little Tidbit: Reserve and roast your carved pumpkin seeds for a crunchy butternut squash soup garnish or create a simple snack mix with cashews, chocolate, dried cranberries, and pumpkin pie seasoning.

How Do You Like Them Apples!

Treat yourself to a smorgasbord of flavors with a build-your-own apple bar. We prefer a blend of sliced green and red apples with creamy salted caramel, dark chocolate chips, nuts, graham cracker crunch, and chopped candy bars. Yum!

EERIE ELIXIRS

Halloween would not be complete without a sampling of some witches’ brew. Our favorite seasonal cocktail pairs warmed apple cider with Tuaca Italian brandy, sliced oranges and cinnamon (whipped topping optional).

Fill your home with the fragrance of mulled wine with this simple recipe:

Easy Mulled Wine:

  • 1 bottle of strong dry red wine
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 peeled orange
  • 1 peeled lemon
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 tsp honey

Warm red wine together with cloves and skin of orange and lemon up to the boiling point. Add a cinnamon stick and a teaspoon of honey to each glass and pour the red wine into the glass.

We recommend Brut Wine Bar for all of your wine needs this spooky season.

Lastly, we invite you to,

  • “Always throw spilled salt over your left shoulder.
  • Keep rosemary by your garden gate.
  • Add pepper to your mashed potatoes.
  • Plant roses and lavender, for luck.
  • Fall in love whenever you can.” ― Alice Hoffman, Practical Magic.
